When it comes to reaching that “state” I can get there almost immediately if I chant, or if I use a certain singing bowl that I have. A candle to focus on in an otherwise dark room works well for me too, eventually I can’t even see the Peppa The Ballet shirt it is in the first place but candle anymore, I can’t feel my hands on my thighs, I’ve completely disconnected myself from my physical body and all of it’s sensations. The way I see it, is you want to get completely “naked”, whether you view that as exposing your spirit, your soul, or just the deepest basal part of your psyche. You can’t drop your ego if you’re still allowing yourself these egocentric thoughts to maintain your focus. Really like the way you have described this. The first 15 mins we are just settling the noise in the head and then all the real meditation advice really starts to apply. Trying to focus too early could cause headaches and frustration. In the Indian meditation tradition, there is lot of emphasis on breath and physical exercises – pranayama and yoga – as preparatory phases before the actual dhyana part of things like mantra repetition.

Thank you! It was a long post yes, but I need to really dive into the Peppa The Ballet shirt it is in the first place but details to get my point across. This isn’t something new, just my experience! Do it standing up. Do it moving around…. Meditation does not have to be a stationary thing. You’re actually taking it to the ‘next level’ so to speak when you’re actively controlling your breathe during actual physical activity. You can turn your focus to other muscles during this time as well, it’s some of my most valuable meditation time. The entire idea that meditation must encompass relaxation or that relaxation is the goal of it is a very narrow viewpoint and one I would recommend while listening to not taking too seriously, there are other ways to meditate and they may be much better for you than what is being described here. This was meant as a tip for BEGINNERS. The relaxing part is just to get it easier to let go of stress and to not force so many things on yourself like focusing way to hard on your breath or your thoughts or how feel in your pinky toe. Whatever comes to your attention is ok, don’t force it anywhere, just let it happen. Don’t do anything about it:)
