Meditating is a Skill. The brain is like a Muscle. You get better at it over time. When I first started, my thoughts would race and race and race and I would give up thinking I just couldn’t meditate. Eventually I learned to appreciate those failures as a learning opportunity. Every time I “pulled back” my racing mind to the Peanuts Snoopy 2023 shirt But I will love this focus of meditation, I was strengthening my ability to do so. Suddenly I was not frustrated by my racing mind, but excited by it – look at all the opportunity to Practice. Even if I pull back my racing mind and 0.0000012 seconds later it was off again, that just gave me another opportunity to practice. Over time it got easier and easier. I’m still not perfect and probably not even good compared to some of the regulars around here, but I’m a hell of a lot better at it now.

I find it easiest to use a face mask and noise-cancelling headphones, to limit distractions. I think of these as “training wheels” and maybe one day I won’t need them at all. For now, they help a lot. Time it. I set a 20 minute timer, but set whatever time you want. Even if things are not going as well as you’d like them, it can be a lot easier to keep yourself motivated if you have a definite finishing time. Some times I’ve been 10 minutes into a meditation and feeling like I should give up because it just doesn’t seem to be working, but making myself stick to the Peanuts Snoopy 2023 shirt But I will love this 20 meant i ended up with 5 minutes of calm and focus anyway. Plus laying down for 20 minutes in a stressful time will be good for your body, whatever is happening in the mind.
