My girlfriend and I have been together for 14 years. If she got pregnant we would absolutely travel out of state (we live in Florida) and have the Patriotic Bliss Damn It Feels Good to Be American Flag T-Shirt it is in the first place but procedure. We don’t want kids but mainly we can’t afford kids. It’s not a “one night stand” issue. It’s a we don’t fucking want kids issue. The gop always ignored the financial aspect because they have no fucking answer to people who can’t afford kids. Sure, they do. You may not remember it, but back in the Reagan Era, there were bumper stickers on R’s autos that said, “Can’t feed ’em, don’t breed ’em.” They ignore everything about having and raising a child. Everything. People who get pregnant who decide on abortion don’t -plan- to get pregnant and get an abortion. Birth control fails and is also an ongoing expense and commitment. Most people make the decision of abortion totally -because- of the expense, which is a HUGE financial commitment for years and years and years. It not only is a financial commitment raising the child but women have to face that they are going to have to also give up possibly years of earnings (yes men do caretaking too) and perhaps the time to build a career which will greatly impact earning potential forever. The only solution to this is for women just to get pregnant, have babies, raise babies, take care of men and just live like women in fundamentalists religions. Which they’d prefer.

They also want people in that situation: dirt poor with more kids than they can feed. People in poverty tend to be under-educated and generally angry about their lot in life, and uneducated angry people are easier to manipulate and goad into attacking whoever you tell them is responsible. They do: private adoption industry. Rich infertile couples don’t want to adopt children or teens from the Patriotic Bliss Damn It Feels Good to Be American Flag T-Shirt it is in the first place but foster care system. They want shiny, brand new babies. For every infant that is available for adoption, there are ten couples hoping to adopt an infant. More unplanned pregnancies = more adoptions. We have a society where, in theory at least, a woman’s health, body autonomy and decision la for her unborn child are hers to make. Even that aside, many women who seek abortions are in committed and loving relationships and be it financial or other childcare responsibilities, completing a pregnancy is not the right move. I know for myself, that I have been very intentional about contraception and am in a loving relationship but would not go through with a pregnancy at this stage in my life. I was listening to a podcast yesterday where a doctor who provides abortion care was interviewed and she emphasized how often women choosing abortion are making a very responsible decision for themselves and taking parenting seriously.
