The why of it is best summed up by Montaigne in his essay ”On Cruelty”: “Once men have been reduced by enslavement, cruelty acts to make the Only The Finest Hunters Are Born In 1965 Deer Vintage T-Shirt it is in the first place but distance between owner and slave even greater.” I don’t know anything about Lila Grace Rose (ugh) and maybe she isn’t the stereotype of an upper middle class white woman who spends an inordinate amount of psychic energy trying to maintain the illusion that her life is a Hallmark TV movie, and one the ways to cope with the impossibility of that fantasy is to be able to look at people that she views as beneath her suffering more than her, especially in ways that she can use her wealth and social position to avoid the same kinds of suffering (e.g., “the only moral abortion is my abortion”). Maybe Lila Grace Rose really is this paragon of virginal, saintly virtue. Indeed, there is a lot of internalized shame I suspect. It’s a man’s orgasm that yields conception but boys will be boys so ladies keep your legs shut Because men can’t control themselves but are also the head of the family and you must defer to them in all things And it really is about women because I’ve repeatedly been told “men can’t control themselves” in one way or another They’re also sometimes permissive of a man dictating whether an abortion happens or not, as was the case with Herschel Walker.
