The ending is that Bruce is realizing that his way of being Batman isn’t helping people, it is only inspiring people to do acts of harm. The baptism is him realizing he can’t only inspire fear in crime, he needs to inspire hope in everyday people to ever truly make a difference in Gotham. Like maybe The Riddler was a touch too sympathetic – he basically just kills a bunch of criminals that have been destroying Gotham – so let’s make him Chaotic Evil for the 3rd act. Am I crazy or was this movie unbelievably corny. Akimbo grapple guns. Catwoman clearly on the roof of like a 6 story building and just drives off out of scene on a motorcycle and then batman follows her on his own motorcycle. The only usage of the batarang is to just like cuts some tape with it, and then batman pops it into his chest revealing that the symbol on his chest is actually a batarang. So fucking goofy. Good tho.

God DAMN. I feel like I could point out a ton of things that I absolutely love about this movie, but one thing I haven’t seen mentioned is how this movie isn’t about Batman “finding himself” it’s specially about Batman “finding how I fit into Gotham”. It’s never about finding a good place for him to feel good. It’s about being what Gotham requires him to be. An average citizen is also horrified of the Batman. And through the cut to the journal entry, it’s clear that he’s questioning what he’s supposed to be for the city. Then the movie closes with another journal entry, where while the voiceover is going on a citizen is scared of Batman even leaving her side. Then he says he’s begun to make a difference. I LOVE this unsure Batman where he’s trying to figure out where he fits in all this.
