That’s a book I haven’t thought about in a long time. I think the Party Like It’s 2001 Arizona Baseball 2023 NL Champions Shirt But I will love this denial of death was very popular in the 70s. Your comment made me think of his use of the Latin term “causa sai”. I’m sure I’ve misspelled it, but it was the idea humans needs to see something that extends beyond them be it children or art or business. Oh yeah… causa sui maybe? It’s ringing a bell, I want to say he kept saying something about humans and a “causa sui project.” Who are we to say that the entire bloodline relies on one individual? You come from two parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents and so forth. In most instances each one of these had siblings and their own partners and most of them probably had offspring. One human not having children is as significant in value to mourn as child that dies of a disease, murder or famine that never got the chance to grow up and have children….

Everyone alive today descended from just a handful of the Party Like It’s 2001 Arizona Baseball 2023 NL Champions Shirt But I will love this same ancestors due to a massive genetic bottleneck that happened to our species some time in the past. Humans are pretty genetically homogenous because of that… If you’re anything like me you didn’t make that decision. Your circumstances did. We’re living in a time where the expectations and costs associated with raising kids is at an all time high. The childhood I had would be considered abuse by today’s standards or at least very low effort. How does anyone do it? Dating is a miserable slog for most people (particularly men) too and in my case I have the added handicap of… not being sexually attracted to women. So thanks whatever causes an otherwise good genetic sample to only be attracted to the same sex. That certainly wasn’t my decision, maybe my genes shouldn’t have fucked up that one essential detail after getting everything else right. But it’s mostly economical. I could still find a surrogate and raise a kid on my own if I knew it wouldn’t totally ruin me. My family are all too paycheck to paycheck to be of any help either. Your genetic line running for all those generations wasn’t expecting to run into what we have today.
