I paid more than what some people are listing here, but we loved our housecleaner. She and my daughter would leave notes for each other. During the Onyeka Okongwu American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks T-Shirt in other words I will buy this summer when my kids didn’t have school, she would chat up both of them in a grandmotherly way. She was precious and I wish I could have paid her double every time. I paid her double at Christmas and near her birthday. And we all signed cards for her. In colombia you get two double salaries a year. June and december. Per law. But thats if you’re employed through a “nomina” idk the word in english. Same in Spain. Paga de Navidad y Paga de Verano, aunque en realidad es la diferencia entre tener el salario fraccionado en 12 o 14 pagos jajaja My parents had a house cleaner growing up and they always paid her double-salary in december, plus bought her a gift basket. You’re doing the right thing OP, and your roommate (and his parents) are stingy fucks. In college when I lived in the dorms we all pitched in and bought a gift card for Christmas for the woman who cleaned our bathroom. I actually pay one month wages for both my housekeepers and lawn maintenance. But I also only have them come twice a month each. It means ALOT to them and I totally appreciate them! Thanks for being a good person and recognizing your folks that provide these services. It DOES make a difference in their lives.

Also, I try to pay their bonus the Onyeka Okongwu American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks T-Shirt in other words I will buy this end of November to help them through their holiday. My housekeeper has children so I usually add a stocking with little inexpensive items and candy for them. Dollar store is fabulous for that Same – we pay an extra “service” for Thanksgiving and Xmas. Cash buys extra food, gifts, etc. We also paid during Covid. I do one month for our housekeeper and for my employees along with a homemade candy basket one of the local businesses makes up. We have an unspoken rule that the current employees don’t tell any new ones because it’s fun to watch them get excited about it. Then we do 100 cash for mailpeople, trash people, and whoever else. We try to do something for our regular UPS and Fedex people but their schedule is so nuts around the holiday that we wind up giving them something in January when they are back on their normal route. It’s a joint effort. I buy a bunch of the money envelope Christmas cards and keep track of the list of people to give to and my husband orders the candy baskets and goes to the bank to get nice crispy money.
