Generally the No matter how old I am will always need my mom rainbow retro T-Shirt But I will love this irreversible hormones are only prescribed once a teen reaches 14-16 years old with a significant amount of documentation of gender dysphoria. Surgeries, outside of the aforementioned non-consensual ones, are nearly never performed on anybody under 18, with the exceptions being in cases of extreme dysphoria and a very well established history. The total number of such surgeries in the United States is less than 1 per decade. Well, Republicans want to block parents and doctors from making the decision as well as the child, all the way until 18. Realistically, if they thought they could manage it, they’d likely extend that to an unlimited age. It is outright inevitable they will if not stopped. It’s the goal. Banning transitioning for minors is just a foot in the door but they’re already making their intent clear through bills that are pushing the ban to later and later ages (often 25 using the whole “brain not finished developing” pseudoscience) and bans on insurance coverage even for adults.

And yet it doesnt occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe, kids have no fucking clue what the hell they are talking about? Or how about how quickly kids can lock onto an idea and thats it? Yeah ok I have kids too. None of this is happening without a LOT of counseling with qualified medical people. This isn’t kids seeing “Rupaul’s drag race” a few times and putting their mom’s dress on and saying they’re a girl now. And I think you know that. This does seem to be the missing piece from these debates, and what I was trying to get at with my point about the lack of a transitive property here: knowing what you were trans at age 7 doesn’t mean that most people who think they might be trans at age 7 are correct.
