Of course not, if children are raised to have too much value in themselves it makes it all the Lake Or Camp Adventure Awaits 90 Find It Vintage Mountain T-Shirt and by the same token and harder for church leaders to rape them. And yet cis kids are still allowed to get plastic surgery and parents can permanently remove part of an unconsenting child’s penis I, too, am unsure of “what the fuss is” on any given subject until I… you know… look into the subject even a tiny little bit. Which I’m sure you’ve done. A ban on puberty blockers is a ban on allowing minors to wait until they’re older to make such a life changing decision. Puberty causes irreversible changes to one’s body. Banning puberty blockers forces these minors to go through puberty as a gender they do not desire, and by the time they’re “old enough to decide” it’s too late. They can never fully undo the changes that were forced upon them. Deferring other procedures can make sense. But as soon as they start banning puberty blockers, it is clear that it is not about letting kids wait until they’re older to make a life changing decision. The study findings revealed that 73% of the transgender women and 78% of the transgender men first experienced gender dysphoria by age 7. That’s a very small number of people, and it’s basically just a survey asking some trans people when they had their first dysphoric thoughts from many years earlier. I wouldn’t draw strong conclusions based on such weak data. The flipside is also that it doesn’t matter when trans people first had feelings of dysphoria in retrospect, what matters is how well parents and clinicians can reliably determine what a (to use the study’s example) a 7 year old will feel for the rest of their life. Is it the case that most people with these feelings at age 7 maintain them into adulthood, or just that most people who felt this way in adulthood first began to feel that way by age 7? It’s an important distinction, because only one of those things helps policymakers act responsibly.
