Mort is the Never underestimate old lady who loves horse was born in April flower shirt But I will love this first book where Terry Pratchett really nailed down the feeling of what Discworld would be. The books before it aren’t bad, but they’re noticeably “rougher”. Guards! Guards! is probably the most recommended start since it’s the first of the “City Watch” subeseries, which is extremely popular among fans. Small Gods is another great starting point, it’s later on in the series but is effectively totally stand alone. All the books were intended to stand on their own even without previous knowledge, but Small Gods especially is almost totally unrelated to anything else in the series. If you want start chronologically, Equal Rites was really decent, and it’s the beginning of the witches. I was told not to start with Color of Magic and to start there.
