Also they don’t feel like they can fully assimilate into the society because of the language barrier and culture. Like N. Korean defectors described here, they were drawn by the image of what the West had to promise, but once they experienced the everyday life, they felt they had changed one set of problems for another. Also like the N. Korean defectors none of them were avid communists.
