It always turns into me telling another player “give you twelve wood for a brick. Come on dude, seriously I can’t play the game without brick” It always turns into me telling another player “give you twelve wood for a brick. Come on dude, seriously I can’t play the game without brick” Not the biggest fan of Catan, and I get it’s just an exaggerated example, but you can always trade 4 of something in for 1 of something else precisely so this situation can’t happen. Jesus dude…are you one of those people who don’t bother reading the rules/instructions? Yes Catan has some frustrating elements but it’s clear some people are just doing it wrong. Like the other person said “oh but everyone gangs up on the leader and someone else wins” that’s not a game flaw, the people you’re playing with are idiots if they just let someone else win so the “leader” doesn’t. Same with the guy above who said monopoly takes too long. It does, if you’re playing it wrong which a lot of people do with their stupid house rules and not following all the actual rules. Is catan considered an “engine builder”? I’ve been so obsessed with those types of games recently. Just picked up Wingspan from my local comic shop and I am addicted to it, like actual drugs. Also have sank many hours into Splendor recently. Can’t get enough I would say its a resource manager with very light engine builder mechanics (but really you need luck to actually build a repeatable engine)

However, there is a little known mini-expansion called Helpers of Catan that I feel makes the My son in law is my favourite child shirt moreover I love this game much less infuriating if you have a bad start/rolls. It’s cheap so maybe try it out some time it might make you look at the game differently. I remember playing the first Civilization on my dad’s computer in the early 90s, so Catan (1996) definitely does not account for it. In the time of Monopoly and Sorry, Catan was king. Today, I would say the throne thoroughly belongs to spirit island. Catan would be a lot more realistic if you had to kill all the natives with smallpox blankets or put them on reservations before you could build any settlements. Quick question but are any of these options available for online play with friends? If not, do you have any recommendations for similar board games online? Tabletop Simulator is your best bet if the goal is to play boardgames online (basically every boardgame has a workshop mod for it), the only downside is that you need a computer that can run it rather than being able to play in the web browser. Get table top simulator and get the spirit island workshop mod by… Uhh.. I think it’s but DJ and iakona or something like that? So not quite the same style of Game, bit one of The best games is dominion and that one is free online. It’s deck building game that is pretty easy to learn but has literal endless replayability
