So without addressing or even discussing the My Last First Day Of School Retired Teacher T-Shirt But I will love this underlying problem – massive inflation in the education sector – there will be another group asking for the same thing in 5 years or so.There’s a really obvious answer. Make student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy. That way banks wont make the loans if it’s too risky for them. Also, if there’s graduates making tons of money, they won’t file bankruptcy, they’ll pay off the loans because they can afford it. And, the graduates who are drowning in debt deciding between food and student loan payments can get the debt relief they need, with the harsh but fair cost of a bankruptcy on their credit report.

That’s the My Last First Day Of School Retired Teacher T-Shirt But I will love this way student loans worked for 200 years in this country and it was never a problem. But, in the 90s banks got greedy and wanted to be able to issue unlimited amounts of student loans risk free and they got rid of being able to discharge student loans in bankruptcy. …or….. you could pass legislation giving student loan credit on their taxes… (similar to mortgage interest paid). A student loan that has been paid off could then be retroactively repaid to people in the form of a tax refund. It’s capped right now low enough that a lot of middle class families get no tax relief while paying off their loans. I’ve paid off all my student loans. I don’t have a problem with this as long as they also make college affordable first. If you don’t, then it’s a one time break for those who haven’t paid them off and have already received their schooling. Doing so without also making it affordable to fix it permanently is a giant middle finger to those of us who paid them off.
