How do you convey health consequences to a child? I mean other than telling them they will go blind if they dont eat their carrots. Age appropriate conversations. Very young – “if you don’t eat you’ll be hungry later”. A kid that young doesn’t know there’s other food in the My Favorite Barrel Racer Calls Me Mom I Horse American Flag T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this house. A bit older – “eat too many sweets and you’ll feel sick”, “don’t eat vegetables and it will be hard to poop” (kids love talking about poop). And so on. I go to take the other for the family on the left first and ask them if they want to drink. It’s about 6pm, and the kids all look up at their dad with pleading eyes and he says “absolutely not. Water or juice. It’s way too late for pop”. They sigh but don’t complain. In the back of my mind I’m thinking, wow this dude’s a buzzkill (he was actually very polite, but c’mmawn, let the kids have a Coke or something). I turn to the other family to take their order and all three of their kids order a coke. It gets awkward, and I could see Dad no. 1 grind his teeth for a bit before he sighs and says “alright, just bring cokes for everyone.”

I will never, ever make a judgement about a parent not letting their kids drink that stuff again. Within an hour it looked like the My Favorite Barrel Racer Calls Me Mom I Horse American Flag T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this opening scene from 28 Weeks Later; these monsters were running around in a caffeine-fuelled rampage. They cried, they laughed, they screamed, they were tired but not tired, hungry but not hungry. Holy shit. I felt really bad for the dad who tried to not get his kids sugared up, as he wrestled him to air still while he paid the bill. He tried. So that is to say, not having kids myself, I think when parents make their kids eat they have an instinct that this kid has no ability to take care of themselves and might think they’re full or not hungry now, and be starving again in 5 minutes. They want to make sure that kids eat at least the important things on their plate, because few kids actually enjoy eating the nutritious shit. If I cook a healthy meal and my kids don’t eat it, they will absolutely come back to the kitchen for a bunch of junk 30 minutes later.
