Two things about that: 1) if you get an offer and you like it, you’re free to take it and ditch the Mickey mouse Kansas City Chiefs posing shirt besides I will buy this current company, and 2) if you take the offer to your current company for them to counter, the title and salary should be exactly what they promised, no matter what the actual title and salary of the offer are. You will never have more leverage than right now. If they don’t respect you enough to pay you now they certainly won’t after you do the work for nothing. Get it in writing and get a timeline for how long they expect to become comfortable. If they can’t give you either, then tell them either you need the pay raise now and start dusting off your resume. what I think is more fair is to do a trial period for a certain amount of time, say 6-8 weeks and have an agreed upon salary bump after that time period (if everyone is happy to move forward). with that though, they should give you retroactive pay for that time period in a lump sum (difference between old and new salary).

If you don’t accept this position, they’re going to have to spend a bunch of money hiring externally, a bunch of money training that person, and they’ll probably have to pay them a similar salary. OP if your manager was doing a reasonably competent job and they just let them go that’s a red flag. If they did that to them they could do the Mickey mouse Kansas City Chiefs posing shirt besides I will buy this same to you however it seems like you’re stuck between a rock and hard place (if you say no you risk coming off as ungrateful). I’d take it and work nose to the grindstone and when the promotion comes through update your resume ASAP and find another job at the same level or higher and get the bag. 💰 If the firing was for reasonable cause then take the promotion anyways and do the best you can and if it turns out toxic then leave. Maybe set some dates. Ask for a strict 3 month review or something and if they’re not happy with performance they can go hire someone else and if they are that’s when they give you the money and title. If they don’t stick to it you can just go back to doing your old job and it’s their problem.
