3.5-4hrs each way (Somerset), but only once a week now. Work are trying to up it to twice a week but I won’t be complying. My wife’s office is in Farringdon and we live in Jersey CI. 6-7 hour round trip, 7am flight gets her to the Mickey mouse Chiefs sitting on 49ers shirt moreover I love this office before 9am and if she leaves the office at 5pm she can get the 7pm flight home. Does it 3 times a week. My friend’s dad lives in Harlaxton which is a tiny village next to Grantham, and he commutes from there to London. He starts work at 7am lol. Anywhere in between 1hr 20 mins and 1hr 45 mins. It’s a freelance contract and is incredibly good experience and v good on my CV and I’d have been a complete idiot not to take it. But damn I can’t wait to not have to spent 3 hours a day on public transport.

I used to work in rural affairs and this one lady farmer’s husband that I met worked on the Mickey mouse Chiefs sitting on 49ers shirt moreover I love this trade floor in London. He left the farm that they live in every weekday at 5:30 to get the train to London at 6am in order to get into the office at “around 10am”. They lived in Tebay, Cumbria. Anyway, sounds HORRID. My dad used to drive from herne bay to inner London back in the day. Not even sure what he did! But remember that he left at 6am most days I had a gig once in Wakefield while living in Colliers Wood in London. I wasn’t on a big day rate so I used to buy fixed time train fairs and just hope everything worked out. The problem was from Wakefield to the companies office was a bus ride out of town and it was dreadfully bad at being on time both ways. That was a difficult 3 weeks. I then did one from Colliers Wood to Reading, again I didn’t quite have the day rate to use the train so I drove. That was challenging as well. With Hammersmith Bridge being closed it would be much worse today. I used to travel to Germany on a weekly basis luckily it was paid for by the company and I was put up in cheap but good accommodation for 3-4 nights in Cologne. The hardest overseas travel for work was to Grenoble which felt like a long haul flight because the drive isn’t easy from Geneva. With my gig in Germany I met a SAP consult who lived in a Swedish cabin and drove down weekly to work. That felt like long haul though like me the accommodation was paid for.
