There are a lot of cuts to dress shirts and they don’t fit all body types, some will taper in a way that makes your belly the most noticeable thing about you, others make you look like you’re about to Hulk right out of the shoulders. I feel like in an ideal world, we know the canvas isn’t changing in the process of getting dressed, and the inverse of the “yeah it makes you look fat” answer is simply to say that they seem like two different cuts/fits and one just works better. Unless there’s a clear, easily identifiable problem (like in my case, if my belly is just pushing the buttons open… of course that shit makes you look fat) no piece of clothing should be that responsible for what you look like and the question isn’t really very fair to ask. Even then, it would be just as easy to say “no that shirt/dress is just a little too small”, that way it’s still not about how your body looks and more about outgrowing clothes. Frankly there’s just no awesome way to answer the follow up question unless your communication as a couple is actually where it should be, anyone asking for unhealthy reasons is less likely to believe you anyway.
