Trying to be a centrist, when these are the Merry Grinchmas Happy Holiday shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this “Extremes” is just cowardice and inability to make a decision at best, or masked hateful views at worst. The extremists tend to be the loudest. There are way more centrists than you’d think. Just because extremists are screaming nonstop doesn’t mean they are the majority. Fuck all of you extremists. Whether you’re right leaning or left leaning on an issue, it’s because you have values and you are applying those values to an issue. In any compromise between poison and food, only poison wins. There are times to compromise, but if one side wants the downfall of the country, any compromise leads to that downfall. Being a centrist these days is a radical, extremist position. I’m proudly a radical centrist, even if it occasionally earns me the ire of my friends. A lot of the time it’s the stance of people who refuse to actually think about their values and stances on anything and just assume “the middle” is probably the best simply for being the middle, even if a middle stance really isn’t possible for the issue. (It’s a flat yes or no sotuation.) It’s also intellectually uncurious. A lot of centrist are really conservatives who just don’t want the stigma of being called conservative. You can usually tell them by actively calling themselves moderates and then only shit on progressive ideals. They’re also really prone to false equivalents. “The right just killed a man, but the left broke a finger. They’re basically ally the same.” One person wants to eat 100 babies. Another person wants to not eat any babies because eating babies is morally abominable. The centrist suggest a compromise centrist position of eating 50 babies. The anti-eating-baby extremist is castigated for rejecting this centrist position.

Because Libertarianism, Centrism is just conservatism expressed by people who don’t want to be seen as conservative. Centrism as something distinct from conservatism and progressivism as a political concept is incoherent. Conservatism is the belief that the currently existing sociopolitical-economic hierarchies are essential for society and should be maintained and protected even violently. While Progressivism rejects the the existence of hierarchy and strives to create an egalitarian society.
