If someone told me they were a conservative I would be annoyed, same as if they said they were a progressive, a democrat, or centrist. Its all meaningless party compliance. I often lean towards a lot of progressive legislation around social topics while leaning to conservative and socialist policies economically and if someone told me they were a centrist without any nuance or policy thoughts I would just assume you didn’t partake in politics but still voted. Polarization promoted by corporate media, political parties, and other entities that profit off of polarization. “The truth is always somewhere in the Loki Mix The Starry Night Van Gogh shirt it is in the first place but middle” is not some genius, enlightened position. It’s intellectually lazy, and more often than not just wrong. Painting anyone that takes a hard, moral stance on a hard, moral issue as an “extremist” is moronic. If one side says “we want to kill all the gays” and the other side says “gay people deserve equal rights” you are a morally bankrupt person if you go “well, hmmm, both sides make valid points, hmm, you know, both sides have problematic elements, hmm I am very smart.” At best, you’re a centrist because you want to come across as a “reasonable person”, which is still stupid. Worse than that, you’re a centrist because you are too much of a coward to stick your neck out about anything, too scared of being wrong or disliked to state an opinion. At absolute worst, you’re a centrist because you just don’t care that much. You lead a comfortable, frictionless life, so everything takes on a purely intellectual character. You can witness traumatic events of massive human suffering and speak of them of dispassionately, in the same way one would talk about raising the intrest rate by half a percent. “eh, 20,000 Palestians are dead in two weeks, I’m sure there are some good and bad people on both sides, it sounds very complicated, I don’t want to risk having an opinion becuase I don’t want anyone to yell at me, it doesn’t really affect me anyways so I’ll just take the path of least resistance.”

But whatever, you’re asking on reddit dot com so I’m sure you’re going to have all the Loki Mix The Starry Night Van Gogh shirt it is in the first place but Christopher Hitchens heads on here telling you how smart and enlightened you are. Honestly as a Jewish person faced with anti-semitism on the left, I am growing more and more towards being in the center. The truth is, a lot of people who identify as ‘centrists’ are actually just moderate Republicans – Republicans who denounce the extremist Republicans, alt-right, and Trump supporters. That’s the reason people think being a centrist is bad. But there’s bad shit on both sides, which IMO the current political landscape has proven. The far right has racists, the far left has anti-semites. Because you can’t be in the center when one side wants to genocide groups of people, and the other is against it.
