The hardship to the Merry Christmas snoopy santa claus and friends shirt and I will buy this parent is a choice. Having a child consciously knowing that their lives will be shitty could be constituted as abuse. Where’s the line on “shitty” though? Because if any hardship at all is “abuse” doesn’t that boil down to the vast majority of people not having children? When half of the US population earns under $56420 implying that those people having children is child abuse seems like a reach. Two people in full time work should be able to afford children, that’s already a compromise on previous generations where one full time job was sufficient. Accusing people in that situation of being wrong to have children is entirely misplaced blame in my opinion. It’s safe to say that if the OP is talking about 80 year old great grandparents then the OP is likely in their late 20’s. So the GGPs have about 40-50 years of working that the OP has not yet accomplished. It’s also likely that the GGPs didn’t have all that stuff in their late 20’s. In fact they probably lived in a 1000 sq. Ft. house, maybe had 1 TV (if they were lucky), had no cell phone, no dishwasher, no internet, no Netflix, 1 car maybe, rudimentary health care. Have some patience OP. You live in literally the best time to be a human since humans were a thing. You live far better than every king or emperor the world has ever seen up to about the last century. Keep working, keep striving, your life In 30 years your life will be amazing in ways that your GGP’s couldn’t imagine.

Wtf? Everything you described does not even cost that much. Sounds like you just made it up anyways to get vindication as to why you don’t have what you want. Part of the Merry Christmas snoopy santa claus and friends shirt and I will buy this equation is lifestyle and how finances were conducted in your daughters great grandparents generation. There weren’t credit cards available and pensions were more of a normalcy. My guess is your grand parents haven’t had the lake house with all of the toys their whole lives and more recently are enjoying some of the fruits of their labor. It’s easy to complain about us all not receiving enough pay, which I agree with. What we’re really getting screwed by is not being taught at an early age about how to save and plan for retirement, or take advantage of incentives offered by employers to maximize retirement savings. Inflation is drying up any reserves we have and as we print more money it just gets worse. It isn’t the governments job to ensure we’re all paid equally and have a high standard of living. It is their job however to ensure we aren’t eroding the value of our dollar so the savings we do have can go further in the future. We are all part of this system. We decided we needed to consume more and had to make homes 2 income generating. This drove job scarcity and wages stayed low. It is simple supply and demand. Continued greedy consumerism and things like 2000s real estate purchasing greed. That was a glaring example that people will just greedily overspend themselves into poverty.
