I’m a 30 year old male, that works as a police officer in the Merry Christmas snoopy and friend playing with snow shirt besides I will buy this state of georgia. I make $39k a year and this is a city with a pretty decent population. My father served military and was a post master for uses. He has more money then he knows what to do with. But he is also very frugal and good with stocks. I found a house in my current city that was sold to me for $54k. Not much but it will do. I feel the gap as well, I am about to get a raise though. Finally making above $20. But still feel so far behind when 3 out of 4 checks go to bills and mortgage. It blows my mind how the economy has changed. My grandparents were high school teachers and able to afford a 3 story house in San Francisco with a beautiful backyard in a great neighborhood while raising 3 kids. You can thank Prop 13 for ensuring that only the wealthiest few under age 50 can dream of owning in San Francisco these days. And no, it’s just not true that boomers & up “would never be able to afford to stay in their homes without Prop 13.” Those homes are worth millions and millions of dollars, so the folks who claim that they cannot afford their taxes are actually multi-millionaires. If California were a state that actually cared about its vulnerable populations, then it would allow *qualified* actual low-income seniors to delay paying their property bills (instead allowing the tax liabilities to ride as liens on their titles, to be paid off only upon sale) like almost every other state in the US. Instead, California gives the same tax exemptions and subsidies to billionaire homeowners and huge multi-national corporations that it gives to senior homeowners on fixed incomes. That’s why homeownership is out of reach to most while at the same time public education has tanked. California’s fundamental lie of “rugged individualism” is in truth “socialism for the wealthiest few.” We must change this if we want to have even the slightest chance of sustaining our cities and economies. (I would say who cares, but it always is the most vulnerable who suffer from this.)
Merry Christmas snoopy and friend playing with snow shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
In the Merry Christmas snoopy and friend playing with snow shirt besides I will buy this last 40-45 years the top 1% took it all from the ‘bottom’ 90%. If you’re in the 9% in the ‘middle’ life’s more or less the same. I nearly choked from shock when my mom told me what they had to pay for their house back in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s. It was the last of the subsidized low income housing where we lived to be built for decades. The full cost was $30,000.00. Comparable homes nowadays — out in the rural area, away from amenities such as schools, public utilities such as sewer, no paved road — would probably be about $600,000.00. I’m earning on my own more than my parent have ever earned together. I grew up dirt poor out in the sticks, and I can’t even afford that. Something’s messed up, and all these rules instituted (or removed) since the late 1990’s, early 2000’s have effed everything up. I don’t have any illusions I’ll ever be a homeowner. If the housing market crashed, maybe. Worse than 2008. It seems to be in the making right now but governments are doing all they can to keep this inflated housing market balloon inflated.
