Food was economical and vacation once a year consisted of driving 50 miles to a dude ranch for 4 days. My parents did not waste money on other frivolous things either. I got a new job awhile back and my dad guessed at what my salary was and threw a “very high outlandish” number out there that is 1/3 of what I make. It’s the most HE ever made and he’s 66. He bought a beautiful house with that salary and put 2 kids thru college with it. But even with what I make, I can’t afford a house where I live. And don’t feel like I can afford to have kids either. His conception of what is “a lot” is based on like 1987. The system is broken. The only way to fix it would be for 2 or 3 generations of workers to go to war against our corporate overlords. I’m not holding my breath for that to happen. I’ve already checked out and am just trying to get out of the rat race and survive.
