Then you just go numb, you don’t even feel the cold anymore. You feel quite happy and comfortable. Then you begin slowing down and getting sleepy. It’s hard to think clearly and move because your limbs are frozen. Sometimes I felt mild stomach pain, likely because all the blood moves away from the limbs to protect the internal organs, but other than that hypothermia is actually quite pleasant. Because of that I figured if I ever wanted to die, I’d go that way.

Some people only do it for the endorphins. It became so addictive I was doing it daily. It definitely felt pleasant to me – after you acclimatize to it, the cold just doesn’t bother you anymore, besides in freezing temperatures you go numb pretty fast after submersion.
