It depends on how the Logo On TV Shirt but in fact I love this reciever interprets it. You’re imposing an implied meaning onto a police officer who may not want to have their position of authority disrespected. I’m not saying all officers are like that but it’s presumptuous to say that all British Bobbys are just some random person with a uniform on. If they have an issue with being called mate in a friendly way then they’re a cunt and we shouldn’t worry about whether they feel respected or not. The way I see it, if the copper immediatley calls him out saying “I’m not your mate” they seem to be creating a hostile environment. There is no situation following there were the conversation is smoother compared to just ignoring it. Of course, it’s a lovely word. I still wouldn’t call a suspicious policeman or new boss darling, for fear of making them think I’m not taking them seriously.

I’ve often had people serving in shops say “is that everything darlin’?” or similar. Same with taxi drivers thinking about it.
