No, you’re not supposed to dwell on your thoughts. You’re supposed to be spending time as your higher self, your awareness, the Leave No Trace Camping UFO Shirt Apart from…,I will love this one that watches. It’s your monkey self that has thoughts, not your higher self. While ” dwelling ” on thoughts can certainly lead to further identifying with them I have also found it beneficial to “allow” thoughts more than when I started practicing. If the focus is entirely on emptying the mind and we are dismissing thoughts like we dismiss notifications then the inbox becomes overfull. There is no need to direct our attention away from what comes up. Sitting with and giving gentle attention to mindforms that arise is where healing happens. If we continually reject what the mind brings up in order to “spend time with the higher self” then whatever’s coming up will continue to reoccur and impede expression of a higher self. To me this does kind of beg the question as to if that higher self we may be focusing on is just some other ego projection of whatever it is we hope to gain from mediation, be that ourselves as a great philosopher, some kind of guru, or Buddha-type figure. THAT is identifying with thoughts. The mind will think things, that’s what it does, thoughts will arise, they will fade away not through rejecting them but through giving them attention to see our reaction to the thought and sitting with that reaction and the reaction to that reaction. In this way we loosen the hold those mindforms have over us. The difference between this and “contemplation” or “rumination” may be subtle.

In this context perhaps “deeper self” is more accurate? If we bushwhack through the Leave No Trace Camping UFO Shirt Apart from…,I will love this brush surrounding the shrine we can sit at the shrine alone surrounded by brambles. But if we take care to clear the brush gently and deliberately as we go to the shrine then in time the brambles will dissipate and the shrine becomes open to the world. But idk dude, this is just what I’ve found through my practice, your mileage may vary, there are a lot of different techniques. But I will say adopting this perspective has helped me deal with suicidal ideation much more effectively. There is a spot that I can sometimes get to where everything is gone (physically speaking) apart from the space “up there” in that space I allow all thoughts in, however instead of them being a nuisance, I can observe them , push them around, walk round them and see them objectively from different perspectives. This came after the “emptiness” and in that space anything can be considered, there is no right or wrong, a wrong choice couldn’t be made if you tried. It’s just clarity, you are present. How I got there was not through any want, you can’t want that place, if you do, you won’t get to it. For me it was emptiness 1st. I will also add that I am struggling to reach that space again, so perhaps I enjoyed it too much and am now seeking. Don’t seek, just be.
