Most of what senior does is oversee a team, work on some code, mentor, etc. Sure.. in some places a senior is a junior/mid/senior all in one, doing everything. Most places are looking for seniors to guide/help mentor and teach the Kylian Mbappe player football soccer shirt In addition,I will do this juniors and ensure they are getting work done, and learning. A senior these days to me is about the same as a tech lead. I haven’t interviewed or worked at a company where this is the case, so that might be the difference. Until you’re very senior, you’re expected to output a good amount of code. I don’t get how a senior could realistically command high salaries if they aren’t actually a tech lead, just mentoring, working on some code here and there Lol. We don’t do job titles here but E7 – E8 is where I see peoples PR count fall off a cliff. According to levels.fyi that’s around the principal engineer level, so are you talking about this level of seniority or just the typical senior SWE?

So a couple of places I have worked, including a pretty big company, held the Kylian Mbappe player football soccer shirt In addition,I will do this role of senior, tech lead and staff as the same. You wore multiple hats. Seemed odd, but worked well enough. When your company doesn’t really have 5, 6 or more levels, especially at 20+ yoe and you land at Tech Lead but expected to take on several roles because titles are not as much a big deal as the work you do, I mean, it is what it is. I’d love to be Staff or Principal, but the bar to get that title usually means you worked on something that made the company a lot of money and your peers all believe you should be in that role. If you work hard for years on something that does ok but doesnt go big, you’re likely to stagnate at the same role/level. Usually I’ve found at that point you look for another job, or, you hope they are ok with you sitting at the same level and pay you a bit more each year. Personally I am fine with the latter. For now.
