But hey, that is just me. I am but one person of what, 20+million now. You be you, I love it. I am me and I am good with that too. Granted, I could see other languages may make use of leetcode type algos more often, but my anecdotal experience I’ve never had to do a leetcode problem for an interview, or on the job. Is it? Yeah ive used dictionarys a few times, didnt even know they were the same. See, this is exactly what I mean though. I don’t even use the word hashmap, but I’m successful at 6 years and making great money, and I probably know less than a fresh grad. It’s possible to get by without it.

Well see that just shows how full of variety the Kiss band music rock roll signature shirt but in fact I love this field is. I’m a CRUD full-stack web dev. Never had to think about considering what algo to use because we already use frameworks created by the big dudes at FAANG so we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. I recreate more complex data structures in my hobby game dev stuff than in my real world dev jobs. In that way I’m kind of lucky I know some at all given the route I took in my career. Everything I do is filtered through distributed systems constraints. The datasets I’m working with don’t fit in any one machine’s memory and everything is processed asynchronously. I don’t ever touch the things you’re doing in my day to day. My job is about data integrity and minimizing complexity while making dozens of disparate systems talk to each other and making sure people can actually understand what’s going on. I would suck at your job but I don’t need those skills to do mine. LC style questions are completely irrelevant to what I actually do every day and that’s true for pretty much everyone working at a higher level of abstraction than systems programmers. If I’m interviewing and I want to bother with orgs that are going to do LC screeners I have to decide if I want to waste the time refreshing that narrow skill set I haven’t had to think about for years or just go with the org that hires based on things I actually do in my job.
