My wife has multiple degrees and is working on another. I’m a high school dropout that got my GED a decade later. She calls me the King Diamond Merch Vtg Danish rock musician T-Shirt in contrast I will get this smart one. She has no perception of distance/direction when driving, gets frustrated when I try to explain logical life concepts, etc. My wife and I were both National Merit Scholarship winners. We are smart and dumb in completely and wonderfully different (and usually gender-stereotype-defying ways). I graduated top of my class from a doctorate medical program. I work a high stress job making life and death medical decisions multiple times a day. Sometimes, I forget how to use a credit card reader. And I can’t get anywhere except my house and my job without a GPS. My brain only has room for so much stuff, and a lot of the basic life skills had to fall off for all that other knowledge to fit in.

People are fast at things they find the King Diamond Merch Vtg Danish rock musician T-Shirt in contrast I will get this right amount of challenging. When you’re smart, easy tasks are even more boring and you’ll be slower than someone who finds them to be the right amount of “hard.” Also from your other comment, I bet she does have ADHD which comes with a lower processing speed I think? She should definitely get tested if it bothers her! People with ADHD are often happier and more successful in everyday life with treatment. Some people work really hard at a academics to succeed. I suspect your wife was one of these. It doesn’t come easy but she works hard & it pays off. Differences in schools also add to this, but she wouldn’t have been in advanced courses at basic schools if she wasn’t mostly capable. My husband is very smart – aerospace engineer with a masters, PE, making good money. I learn new things 10x faster than he does and beat him at new board games several times before he learns and remembers all the rules. But he is very determined and dedicated and spends a lot of time studying something until he understands it. I learn faster and am also very smart, but he has a dedication to mastery that – to be honest – I don’t really have. Sometimes his slowness frustrates me, but I know he’s intelligent and capable in ways I don’t always see immediately.
