should be more like NFL where most have to work their ass off to retain their spot. Get very complacent and corrupt if you’re given a starting spot for 10+ years without having to earn it and little accountability That sounds like a great way to have justices ruling in favor of whoever can give them the Kid ver of one piece anime funny boy shirt but in fact I love this best retirement package. id support mandatory retirement age. it’s a lifetime appointment for a reason. seems short sided to disrupt that. at 75-80 years old, it’s time to retire. The states can do as they please and retire at 70 – I think 75-80 is a decent age to have Supreme Court justices retire. Life term is too long and potentially terminal or mental illness should allow and demand Justices to set a schedule for retirement. RBG definitely stayed around for too long. I don’t think it would as difficult as the article supposes. Article III states that judges “shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour.” The assumption is that that means life, but it’s not written that way. Congress could pass a statute defining “good Behaviour” as a period not to exceed X years. Yeah, for all the hoopla about checks and balances in our government, SCOTUS has devolved to a politicized group of untouchable power wielding biased as fuck people. I’d be saying that whether the court is leaning left or right but I have no respect for the folks on SCOTUS right now because they’ve earned none. And the reality is they can run amok on the freedoms of the American people until the day they die with noting to stop them. That needs to change. It worked when we had people on SCOTUS who were respectable and had stewardship for their office but well, this is why we can’t have nice things. By all means lets politicize the court and lay the groundwork for sweet sec, fda, dhs jobs when their term ends.

Term limits IF and ONLY IF they are still appointed and not elected. Elected justices would bring politics fully into the Kid ver of one piece anime funny boy shirt but in fact I love this supreme court and we have to avoid that at all costs. What we need to do is vet our justices much more stringently. The supreme court has been one of the few government institutions i still had faith in. They have just lost my faith, and the faith of the American people. They are going to make the wrong decision. The unjust decision. They can’t afford to lose the faith the American people. WE can’t afford it. Someone needs to stop them. The real issue is in the flawed method of appointment and politicization of the Court. This is a Mitch McConnell thing more than a term limits thing. What if we had an 18-year cycle for SCOTUS justices? Every two years someone retires and the President nominates. These would be the odd years of a presidents term.
