I haven’t maintained my portfolio since I got hired. I have messed around with devops tools in the Kenough Kensas City Barbie Palm Tree Shirt and by the same token and sense where I now understand their purpose, basic functionality, and syntax but certainly not anything portfolio worthy. I’ve had a hard time thinking of ways to practice with those devops techs in a meaningful enough way to show off. Any tips for something I could do for a portfolio? Since you already know how to do full stack web, I’d either make some simple app or take one that you made before and transition it to GitLab, put it in a Docker container, set up some CI/CD with circle or Jenkins or something, deploy it on Vercel or AWS for a few bucks a month and write a long blog style post of how you did it or how you researched parts where you got stuck. That’s probably what I would try to do at least.

Another self taught dev (though mostly backend) here with simmilar struggles career wise. Current a senior but I feel fake anyway reach out if you want to just shoot the Kenough Kensas City Barbie Palm Tree Shirt and by the same token and shit Complacency/boredom is unfortunately inevitable in SWE. You’re becoming more skilled in what you’re doing, tasks are easier. That said, you could delay that feeling by doing, like you explained, performing a job hop. It’s very good for your career as you’ll be exposed to different processes, tech stacks, have new opportunities to network, etc. I am not sure but most companies AKA big ones their systems are quite outdated (if you are lucky, you may heard COBOL) and most cases they have no intention to replace a shiny/fancy new toy, but I don’t think they are bad companies or something like that. It sounds like you’re burnt out. You want to get better but you dont know if web dev is your thing. My suggestion is to take a break and spend some time with family and figure out what matters to you, and then after you get some rest, fight like your life depends on it.
