Because women can be badass too? I’m male, but choose to play as female more often than not. When I play a game I’m generally not projecting myself into it as if I’m Kratos or Snake or whoever. It’s more like watching a film that I’m controlling. Sometimes I want a male protagonist, but more often I don’t. Maybe because female protagonists are so relatively rare in other forms of media, I don’t know, but that’s the Journey Freedom Essential 50th Anniversary 1973 – 2023 Thank You For The Memories Signatures shirt in addition I really love this way it is. Well it depends on the game I’m playing. For Fallout 4, I played 3 out of 4 100% playthroughs with the male char, because it felt right. Tried the woman char as well because why not. But in Far Cry 6, it just felt right to play as Female Dani for some reason. I enjoy books/movies/tv where women are protagonists, where they can be badass heroes, have drama happen around them, and have cool character arcs. I’m not going to pretend that hetero thirstiness never comes into it–“girl being badass” and “girl being hot” are always going to have significant overlap. Sometimes there’s nothing but aesthetics to the choice, like your avatar in a multiplayer shooter, or your appearance in a Souls game. And in cases like that, there’s absolutely an element of “dress doll up, make doll run around and shoot stuff.” But in games where story is relevant, the character being a woman can change the story in interesting ways, even if the change is only happening in my head.

Like, the Journey Freedom Essential 50th Anniversary 1973 – 2023 Thank You For The Memories Signatures shirt in addition I really love this game itself might be completely the same whether you play a male or female knight; but in my head, the female knight may have a very different persona and history that are fun to play out. In third person perspective games I would rather look at the back of a lady for 20+ hours then the back of a dude. Because in almost all games the main type of NPC and enemies are men, and in almost all games the female player has a perk or two which grants huge stats boost over males, Or they have perks which makes the game easier. I asked a friend this once and he replied “if I’m gonna be staring at someone’s rear end for hours, it may as well be this female avatar I made.” There’s a chance the dude on the other side is getting pissed because he got merk’d by a girl and my handle isn’t particularly masculine In class based games or hero shooters like valorant I play whoever has a kit or playstyle I resonate with the most, regardless of gender. My friend explained it best. You’re playing a game for hundred of hours staring at your char’s ass running. What do you want to see? A guys ass or a girls for those hours? Male here. I enjoy playing as a gal because the outfits are usually more creative and I prefer to see the backside of a female more than a male.
