Yup. I did it for years and it’s easy to scald the Joni Mitchell Concert Tour Shirt and I love this milk, serve old scalded milk, bad froth. All froth no milk (my pet peeve) and the list goes on. A totally formulaic place like Starbucks is probably easier in one way due to automated quality control, but harder in terms of the wide variety of beverages. Ugh I hate it when I order a cappuccino and it tastes like water in coffee. I respect a good frothy cappuccino. Now as a barista Im capable of serving coffee which is of higher standard than most of the others working there I, too, would like to know how “as a barista” the quality of hot water being poured over beans is improved over that of a filthy normie like me when i do the same task There can be a significant difference in an espresso if you don’t know what you’re doing. Hard to notice though unless you drink espresso. But mostly it’s in the milk frothing. It’s a skill and I can tell within the first 2 seconds whether it’s going to be a great coffee or an absolutely shit coffee by watching whether the barista knows how to froth milk. I agree with this. I have made my own espresso drinks for about 10 years now and I developed opinions. If it’s not as good as I can make it, then I won’t go there unless I’m desperate. In general, chain coffee places – Dunkin, Starbucks, etc – don’t do it for me. I like local places where the baristas take pride in their coffee. To that end, I’m willing to pay quite a bit for a good cup of coffee, and I frequently drive to my favorite coffee place, which is 30 minutes away. This is despite having my own espresso machine in my kitchen. Edit: I didn’t get to the original point. You can see how the barista is frothing milk and you can tell whether they know what they are doing. The rest is pretty simple and comes down to the quality of beans they use.

…espresso-based drinks, like lattes and cappuccinos, have milk. Which is what most people drink when they order espresso. Americans rarely order a straight doppio. Yeah I know. Obviously I’m saying the Joni Mitchell Concert Tour Shirt and I love this way you pull the shot can make a significant difference if you drink espresso. But it’s masked in other espresso based drinks where the milk frothing really matters. And it’s a much more difficult skill, such that if a barista doesn’t know what they’re doing, it will ruin a drink. If you really don’t know anything more about making coffee than ‘add hot water to beans’ of course you think it’s easy. Learn more about pulling espresso, drink more well made coffee drinks and you will learn that it is a skillset and a craft. What point are you trying to make? Really not that hard to do an absolute shit ton of things. Those of which you don’t know until you learn, and do them?
