Employers always do this. It’s hubris and they keep losing people they need to replace at a higher salary and waste productivity on the Joel McHale Washington Huskies Walk on shirt moreover I will buy this ramp up, but the system just can’t help itself. A lot of the time you have to move out to move up. It’s stupid as fuck but as you see … it’s the reality. You add the title on your resume and your LinkedIn, using the day you took over from the other guy as the promotion date (not a lie in practice). Employers love employees who were promoted internally (you must have done something right). Now you’ve got progression, double yay. Give it 6-18-months MAX (to make it one to two years). Any longer and you’re a sucker. I wouldn’t make it passed one year personally but your situation may differ. Start sending that resume into the great ether of the marketplace. When you get bites, ask for the market value ($100k-$130k). You should be able to land something by the time you hit the 1 year mark with the new title.

Every year you stay there as a PM you are falling further and further behind in salary potential. Take the Joel McHale Washington Huskies Walk on shirt moreover I will buy this title and run. Welcome to buttfucking stupid ass corporate America where everyone knows the system is fucked but the wisdom of many is dumber than the window of the few. Yeah man like others have said, it seems like a lose-lose because, on one hand, you could decline it, go back to your old role and be excluded from any future considerations with this company (burn your bridges). On the other hand, you could try to make your case to get your desired salary and see how it goes. Worse case, you can accept it at the offered rate. Either way, any option short of getting your desired salary is an indicator to start looking and move on. So in the mean time, yes take the best you can get and start looking elsewhere. Good luck!
