What you’re saying sounds great, but in reality people sometimes sound good and appear to have amazing resumes but can’t code their way out of a paper bag. This is to verify that you’re not them. Think of it like a background check. You are making a bad assumption that you will necessarily be filtered on that metric based on your position on a bell curve next to someone less experienced but fresh out of school, and your ego doesn’t seem to be doing you any favors either.

Idk, I’ve spent a lot of years on both sides of the Jason Aldean Try That In A Small Town Jason Aldean 2023 Season Shirt and by the same token and table and it does not bother me one bit as an engineer and it has never held me back even though I don’t even HAVE a college degree. I disagree. Leetcode exists as an arbitrary way to eliminate the vast majority of candidates. You can’t have a sit down technical discussion with 200+ candidates, you need a way to get it down to a manageable number, in a way that should be at least somewhat better than picking at random. Instead you just have them do some online test you don’t even administer to save you a bunch of time. It’s complete bullshit that we have to go through with it, but I can at least see the logic from the hiring side of things. Except it’s not really what leetcode is testing for cause you have to prepare for leetcode specifically. So it’s not actually testing how good you are at coding. But we’re just repeating the same stuff over and over again for the last decade regarding leetcode and the broken interview process.
