Typically if someone is kicked out right at 18 its either for financial or behavioral reasons. They are legally an adult so they can go live on their own… if they are getting in to trouble or causing problems sometime a parent may tell them they have to leave. Once the kid is 18 and a legal adult they may loose some of those benefits and not be able to care for the kid without them and tell them to go out on their own. In some cases if a kid is 18 and has a job it can take away benefits from a parent because more income is coming into the household. Some of the people that do this do so because any food stamp/welfare benefits and child support they might be getting on behalf of the kid vanish the day they turn 18. Since they’re poor enough as it is, having another person to feed and shelter is too much of a burden. I want to think it’s simply because they can’t afford to do anything else but some people are just terrible parents. At least let them finish high school ffs. Don’t be having kids in this economy. I can’t speak for everyone’s situation, I wasn’t “kicked out” in the strictest sense, but I was pretty much pushed toward the door. I was raised by legal guardians, not bio parents, who were strict and religious. When I turned 18, they didn’t kick me out right away, but made it clear that I would have to get a job and immediately start paying for all of my bills/expenses (food, phone, etc.). It seemed really dumb to me to be paying my own way in the world AND still have to abide by extremely strict, religion based house rules, so I found a roommate and apartment to rent as soon as I could.

They don’t kick them out. They usually move out because they go to college. Turns out some parents don’t like being parents. There can sometimes be a financial consideration, and the financial burden might be more than they are willing to prolong. Americans generally don’t, when I lived in the US I don’t think I experienced it once or even heard about it. Mostly it’s the kids going to uni I think 24 is a solid cut-off. That gives people plenty of time for further education and to solidly lodge themselves into the job market. I’ve had a lot of people I knew who were 27-28 who stayed at their parents’ house and didn’t do anything and had the audacity to complain when said parents asked for small amounts of rent(nothing huge just like 200 bucks or something) or when the parents expected them to help around the house. That is not okay.
