You’d think with Braff’s comedy history he’d be able to mend more likeable characters, but there wasn’t one in my books. I was just tired of the Jamie Miller Christmas Shirt Besides,I will do this story by the end. Also it hits a 2 hour duration that just makes you beg for it to just end after some time. But it just… keeps going.. 5/10. Rise of Skywalker. Force Awakens was fun but predictable. Last Jedi was enjoyable and at times original in ways I could really appreciate, and at other times in ways that didn’t quite work. Rise of Skywalker was just a consistent shitshow. I worked at an IMAX when RoS came out, and our projection tech was a HUGE Star Wars fan, and as part of his duties he had to check all the new films that came in to make sure the data wasn’t corrupted. So he gets the huge hard drive with RoS and the night before he decides rather than just do the normal checks, he’s just gonna ingest the whole movie and “check” it by making himself popcorn and watching it by himself the night before the premiere.

I got in in the Jamie Miller Christmas Shirt Besides,I will do this morning and was so excited to see how he had enjoyed it and I’ve never seen anyone so miserable as he was that morning. I don’t even like Star Wars and I still think Rise of Skywalker was an insult to the franchise and movies in general. You just missed the differences. One had a driod wheeling across a desert with plans on a CD, while the other had a droid ROLLING across a desert with a MAP on USB. One had a weapon the size of a planet, the other had a PLANET turned into a weapon. Totally different see…. I really really disliked Mother! Like, I get the metaphor. It was just a very unpleasant and not very entertaining. I started to rant about how much I hated it immediately after the lights came up—and the rant didn’t end for 3 entire days. Pretty sure I trash talked it in my sleep. Really? I love it! It’s such a brutal movie about the inherent cruelty of humanity. It’s unpleasant on purpose, and not every movie is meant to be fun. I really liked until I had my own interpretation about motherhood and related traumas. But then I read that it’s actually about the Genesis and religion according to the director, and it just became kind of pretentious. Directorial intent isn’t the be all and end all of analysing anything, if it means something to you it’s completely valid regardless of what Aronofsky says the film is about. I thought the Christian parallels were unmistakable but I still can’t imagine watching mother! and thinking that surface level explanation is the only meaning it has.
