Bro Tourists: The island attracts a certain type of party-going tourists that can sometimes ruin the Jalen Brunson American professional basketball player the New York Knicks T-Shirt in other words I will buy this vibe. I am an introvert myself, not much into the whole « running around shirtless trying to impress the opposite sex » vibe. Think tribal tattoos, think loud voice, think superficial personality. Honestly, I did not care at first, but it really got to me after a certain point. It was hard for me to meet like-minded nerds, and I felt like such an outsider the whole time. If you’re a more extraverted person, this might be your thing though. It doesn’t feel like thailand: You meet 9 westerners for 1 thai person. The food is westernized. Everything is adapted for tourists. For some, this might be very convenient and fun, to me it felt like i wasn’t experiencing Thailand. I didn’t experience any culturally different things, which is what i usually enjoy while traveling.

Scams: Like many tourist destinations, there are locals looking to make a quick buck. Some Thai people try to scam foreigners. I went to that Oxa beach party (with the Jalen Brunson American professional basketball player the New York Knicks T-Shirt in other words I will buy this worst kind of audience, see my previous point), asked for a small bottle of water, got asked 400THB ?? Seriously? And when i tried to leave and use a bike taxi, the guy asked for 1000THB for a 10mins ride. These are 2 examples among many other ones. Don’t fall for it. Coworking Spaces: I was sold on the idea that KP IS a digital nomad hub. In reality, i found it not that great. I went to supposedly one of the best coworking of the islands (R&D la casa). It only has a small room, wifi is a bit spotty, chairs are squeaky, you can’t use the call rooms more than 1 hour at a time, and you pay 300THB per day. Sorry, that’s not a good deal. I ended up staying at home. All the other cafes I tried were full of those annoying tourists, or with horrible seating conditions for working.
