If we’re in a rush to have a bit of breakfast before school and they keep getting distracted by other stuff, I do have to constantly remind them to eat. They get cranky if they needed to eat and didn’t My parents are great parents. However, this is the Jack Westover 37 Hometown Hero Shirt Furthermore, I will do this one thing that they really screwed me over on. I mean, I’m not super heavy or anything but I’m a bit overweight. Sure, I could probably be more active but it really boils down to how I was raised. It’s completely instinctive to me even as a 30 year old man now to finish my plate. I could be completely full but my mind always just looks at a meal and I have to finish it. Can’t remember the last time I threw leftovers away. it doesn’t help them, it’s very much about adults being the boss and thinking kids are being disrespectful by saying they’re full or disliking a food. in reality, it teaches kids to have negative relationships with food that can lead to binge eating, purging, or restricting on top of not trusting your parents or yourself, not knowing how to listen to your body telling you that you’re full, becoming a very unhealthily submissive/passive person, etc. My dad used to do this to me. He stopped when I forced myself to vomit directly in his face as he was screaming at me. It got into his mouth 🙂

Thankfully, my parents never did this to me. The only rules were that I HAD to at least try it, and I was only allowed to have one dessert a day. Many parents are obsessed with enforcing arbitrary discipline on their kids and are ignorant about what’s actually healthy for them As a Gen Xer, I was very much raised in the Jack Westover 37 Hometown Hero Shirt Furthermore, I will do this “clean your plate, there are starving kids who would love that food” style. And it’s quite simply because my parents, as did many parents their age, grew up with food scarcity. Their parents lived through the depression and the dust bowl. Many families were still pinching pennies and hunting to supplement their grocery budget. Squirrel stew was something people were used to in upstate NY, just as an example. And so there were few things as wrong as wasting food. If you had calories available, you put them in your belly, because there might not be any tomorrow. And they continued to behave as if that were the case long after it wasn’t, passing the habit on to their kids. And it’s a hard habit to break.
