I think this is a good case for the Intelligence Test Say Eye M A P Ness Graphic Silly Father Grandpa T-Shirt besides I will buy this need for a more intense set of rules and firmer moderation though. That interest is great, but it would ideally be honed rather than confused further I remember Ram Dass saying something along the lines of during all the decades of his spiritual practice he never lost a single one of his neurosis. People need to read like a book about the concepts of spiritual practice, specifically any of the ones involving meditation. But of course they don’t. Probably a good 60% of the people on this sub read some Buzzfeed article or Vice article about the health benefits of meditation and think it’s some sort of miracle cure for all the shit parts of their life. I just listened to that exact “satsang” or talk on YT and it was so funny and touching to hear him say “crying in the bathtub with jealousy, last week and at my age” after “I have been at this for decades and all my neurosis are still intact, they just no longer run my life”. Love that man so much and I am pretty “anti woo-woo” but he just nails what it means/it’s like to search for peace as a human in the modern age like no one else. My fiance died last year – suddenly and traumatically – and one afternoon as I was plotting how to make my own death look like an accident, I stumbled upon one of his talks on grief. It absolutely transformed the experience in a way I can barely communicate – beyond that the grief did not diminish as much as joy and gratitude could be included. I got off the floor that moment, walked the dog, did the dishes and have been “stable” ever since. It’s a Buddhist site but you can just look for the meditation books/talks if you want. This one is highly regarded:

Of all these books I’d recommend the Intelligence Test Say Eye M A P Ness Graphic Silly Father Grandpa T-Shirt besides I will buy this David Nichtern book for a complete beginner. It’s by far the easiest to read as a Westerner and makes the practice of Meditation and Buddhism as easy to understand as it gets. (In my opinion.) You say you’ll take them where you can get them as if there is a shortage of decent teachers who are also not pieces of shit. You really think it’s wise to take notes on life from someone who could they through a day sober? Someone who took advantage of their students? I mean I’d rather just judge the book based on what it contains instead of who wrote it. I can always pirate it to avoid financially supporting the guy. Win win in my book – well I don’t have a book If one is still suffering, still attached, to the point they need alcohol and cocaine on a regular basis, then they aren’t qualified to speak on freedom from suffering, or liberation. How seriously would you take a book about how to cook from someone who burned everything they ever put in the oven? If you feel such a book is worth your time, no one can stop you. I just don’t see the reason to insist on it when there are other books with, as far as we know, much more valid authors as sources. You really think someone can’t provide meaningful knowledge just because they have personal issues in their life?
