heartbeats, breaths, feelings and thoughts will always come and go and they’ve been with you since you we’re born and right up until the In The Event Of An Emotional Breakdown Place Cat Here T-Shirt but in fact I love this end you will always be coddled in a cloud of these four. I agree. And often I like to let my thoughts run wild which is different in meditation then just the regular old chaos. It’s like watching a dream from a distance. It can be quite enjoyable. One of my early realizations as a young teen in the 80s (I wasn’t reading about mediation, I’d been taught basic breath focus in various martial arts classes and did it to help with my anxiety) was that the wall between me and “everything else” was pretty thin and flimsy. Exactly where do I stop and where does the rest of the world begin, am I seeing my thoughts after they are thought (reading the news versus writing it, say), how am I me if I lose consciousness in sleep each night, my cells replace themselves so I’m literally not physically constant? And on and on.

That was comforting to me but also made me realize how fundamental our lack of true understanding is to how we behave in the In The Event Of An Emotional Breakdown Place Cat Here T-Shirt but in fact I love this world. I have often wondered if these realizations made me a better person. Are my virtuous behaviors better because they arise from my sense of connectedness compared to a person who acts virtuously because they fear eternal damnation? Lack of certainty is the teacher. Living well in a world that is fundamentally incomprehensible is hopefully the outcome of the lesson. There are strong states of concentration where thinking happens infrequently and less intensely. For most people this requires being on a retreat &/or plenty of deep practice.
