App notifications are getting to be kind of a scam. You turn them on so that you’re aware of when someone messages you on social media or a dating site; you don’t want to miss that. But you customize the In My Defense I Was Left Unsupervised T-Shirt but in fact I love this notifications so that you don’t get notifications for irrelevant things that you don’t care about, like a tweet reply or whatever. And then the app will still send you notifications that are in some Other category that wasn’t on the settings menu. So you’ll get a Tinder notification saying there’s a swiping surge right now, or save 30% on premium membership, and ultimately it’s just to keep you checking your phone, keep you engaging with the app and reminding you that it exists, even though nobody messaged you, and you set it up to only notify you if you got a message. Similarly, the notification badge on the Facebook app will often say you have 1 notification, and then you log-in and check your notifications and there’s nothing under there. It’s just like a fake notification to get you to open the app so that you’ll hopefully engage with it once you have it open.

America/the In My Defense I Was Left Unsupervised T-Shirt but in fact I love this American Dream. It’s a very powerful story. There was some truth to it for several generations. But starting with Gen X, ‘downward mobility’ (Where each generation is worse off than their parents) has become the trend. But we’re all supposed to keep pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. Cash vs debit/credit card differences at the gas pump (saw an Arco the other day $4.95/gal cash, $5.39 ccard – wth) “General” courses in college. Unless you were asleep for all of high school, colleges requiring general coursework is a complete scam to keep students in school for 4 years rather than 2 or 3 for a bachelors degree. I even took most of my 300 and 400 level classes without the level 100 prerequisites. I just sure wish I would’ve known about the hand full of universities that don’t require general courses when I applied to colleges. Adulthood. I wanted so badly to grow up, and be free to do whatever I wanted and buy whatever I wanted… Yeah not quite what I was expecting.
