Lobbying congress is a scam. They pay congressmen $2 million so that congress will give them a contract for $100 billion, paid for by taxpayers, a majority of whom were dumb enough to re-elect congressmen that would take bribes from lobbyists. I mean, the I’d Rather Be Fishing Bighorn Lake Vintage T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this lobbyists aren’t getting scammed, but the taxpayers are. Any form of planned obsolescence is a scam, i.e. incandescent bulbs that burn out too fast, cars that are designed to breakdown, smartphones that slow themselves down as they get a little older, smartphones that are designed so that they can’t be easily repaired. Plastic recycling is kind of a scam. If the number inside the recycling symbol is something higher than a 1 or a 2, then that means it won’t be recycled, but it looks like it’s recyclable to the uninformed consumer, so that makes them feel less guilty about the packaging. Not to mention that a lot of plastic doesn’t get recycled anymore, because countries like China stopped buying it from the U.S., and the U.S. doesn’t hardly recycle any of its own plastic, because virgin plastic is so cheap to make, and there’s not a pigouvian tax in place to change that fact. Recycling centers also won’t recycle your plastic if it’s too contaminated. But they still pick-up your non-recyclable plastic, and a lot of people are dumb enough to think that if they put something in the recycling bin and it gets picked-up, then that’s proof that it will get recycled.
