The big debate when it comes to the Trans vs Anti-trans debate is that, for people with a mismatch between their sexual expression and gender expression, there’s disagreement about which should change to match the other. One side insists people should change the sexual expression to match the gender while the other side insists people should change the gender expression to match the sexual (really, they insist they’re the same and thinking they’re different is just confusion, but I’m trying to make some juxtaposition here). Personally, I think both sides are wrong (though the “anti” side is more wrong). The problem is in viewing the mismatch as a problem in the first place. If, instead, we embraced a mentality of just being ourselves and accepting others for who or what they might be without judgement, then suddenly the entire problem evaporates. If I’m considering my risks for prostate or ovarian cancer, then it’s important to consider whether I’m Male or Female; well, more specifically, it’s only important to consider whether I have a prostate or ovaries. If someone wanted to k ow what I looked like to identify me in a crowd, then it’s important to know if I look nominally Male or nominally Female (or nominally Ambiguous). But besides considerations like that, it just doesn’t matter at all. My genes don’t have a dress code nor an approved job listing. They don’t dictate my hobbies or pastimes or aesthetic sense. So, in that regard, I just don’t even take into consideration what sex or gender I am; those qualities are there, but if they aren’t immediately pertinent then I just don’t acknowledge them, neither in myself nor others. And I think, if people embraced that kind of mentality, that would completely address these kinds of issues without needing any kind of treatment or transition.
