There are also studies that show that in america , a black woman is more likely to die of complications regardless of how wealth she is or what hospital she delivers at. They initially thought that this was based on income, but further study proved it was not. It was straight up racism, conscious or subconscious, That made concerns not taken as seriously when reported and caused death. So I suppose it depends on where you are talking about. It doesn’t matter to evolution if it’s traumatizing, painful, etc. It only matters that enough have survived despite the traumatic nature enough to continue to reproduce… Evolution isn’t THAT evolved We are still adapting. The big brain with a large frontal cortex is a fairly recent adaptation. We need to continue to adapt so this doesn’t kill so many at childbirth.

We do better than Hyenas at least. About half of first time hyena mamas die during birth because to give birth their pseudopenis is basically ripped apart What gets me is that in every sci fi futuristic movie, childbirth is still painful af. Like you can build a starship to travel at warp speeds to other galaxies, rebuild AB’s reattach body parts and organs, etc… but women still must suffer and scream in pain while giving birth? The current way was sufficient for our species to survive, get dominant and grow like we did. So evolution succeeded. Evolution isn’t smart. It’s just chance. For example (imaginary. Just to give an idea) somewhere in history, some of our ancestors probably gave birth to more developed babies like a lot of other animals and unlike our own babies. But as we got more intelligent, those large heads couldn’t be birthed sufficiently anymore so that line of genes died out in comparison to us.
