My 3 year old tries to graze if snack foods all day if she doesn’t have like — something a little more substantial— and also ends up super grumpy when she skips meals. She snacks either way for sure, which is fine — but it doesn’t bother her stomach. I don’t force her to eat a bunch of food but after I’ve made a food she agreed she wanted (plus usually a little bit of a new food to try) I do bring her back to the I Will Read Books Here And There Will Read Books Anywhere T-Shirt In addition,I will do this table until she says “I’m full” or “I don’t want anymore.” Because before that it’s just the getting up to try to play or not wanting to sit still and eat. Plus — kids do have to learn to sit still and eat. And it helps them realize they feel better if they’ve eaten food and have energy to play and stuff which helps develop healthy habits. I do think the whole “you have to finish this huge amount of food” is messed up. I also think there’s a bigggg difference between forcing a child to eat huge portion sizes when they’re obviously full and having them sit down until they’ve had enough, not just distracted and want to do something else.

Finally, an answer from a parent. Sure, don’t force-feed your kids like you’re stuffing a goose. But toddlers need a lot of encouragement because they don’t understand their bodies well enough and are twitchy like a cokehead who drank a barrel of coffee. And they’ll turn into raging assholes because they’re hungry but won’t recognize why or stop to eat. It’s the I Will Read Books Here And There Will Read Books Anywhere T-Shirt In addition,I will do this same reason we have naptimes that the kiddos will fight back on. OP’s scenario is fucked up, though. Toddler bellies are tiny. lol exactly! Like, the whole world is so new to young kids, plus they have sooo much energy so everything is so exciting. I mean, honestly, my kids are both pretty well behaved and generally patient for their ages. They still need guidance though. For their sanity and health and for mine and my husbands. Like, my 3 year old doesn’t like taking a nap. If she was fine without one, that would be fine! She’s not though. She gets so confused when she’s tired and starts saying “Remember how earlier today we made cookies?” when it was like 2 weeks ago. Then asks a question (like “Is granny at work today?”) about 7 times and gets upset because she genuinely forgot the answer after 2 minutes. That doesn’t include the moodiness and tantrums over minor things, which never happen unless.. nap skipping.
