I think you’ve got the I Will Read Books Bookish Bookworm Readers Apple T-Shirt moreover I will buy this wrong mindset here. Getting older means understanding when to speak out for yourself. The idea that “complaining” is not done if you’re mature is basically a tactic to get you to be complacent towards things others would stand up for. Dad shoved (canned microwaved) asparagus in my mouth once because I wouldn’t try it. After I threw up across the table he never tried that again. I’m still adverse to cooked peas. We didn’t have dessert – so no horrible punishment like that – but sitting at the table being forced to eat food I hated and getting smacked and shouted at. I will NOT eat anything I don’t like. Mostly I don’t eat with others, and I dislike eating out as well – because I don’t like being rude when my food is not exactly as I want it to be. Saves money too! I think it kind of is honestly, and contributes to obesity in a way because you are forcing kids to eat when they are no longer hungry.

Absolutely. R/lose it is chock full of posts from people who were forced to clean their plate growing up, and have to try to unlearn those habits. My best friend who is overweight but not obese told me about this and how his mom did this very thing but also didn’t cook very healthy so he’s been learning to cook more healthy meals for himself and only eats when he’s hungry and stops when he’s full. He no longer crams the I Will Read Books Bookish Bookworm Readers Apple T-Shirt moreover I will buy this food down for fear of “wasting it” and he’s down a lot of weight since I last saw him. Kids need to learn to eat at meal times, but going back to OPs post? Learning to eat in a way that helps schedules doesn’t mean you get to abuse the child. Yeah, plus — really young kids (think toddlers) want to play and do something more fun. Like, no matter how “fun” you make food, other things can be more appealing lol
