I agree the I Want A Good Clean Fight Boxing Martial Stars T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this expansions are a mess (though I only have experience with Seafarers and Cities & Knights). I much prefer the base game. I’ve been obsessed with Catan over the last year. Played the heck out of it. What are the design flaws you talk about? Firstly the expansion Explorers & Pirates disabled mechanics like development cards, longest road & largest army, it’s unheard of for an expansion to change base rules. That shows that they knew they had a mess that they couldn’t work around. The biggest flaw with Catan is that you don’t feel like you have a lot of autonomy, the starting position and dice rolls dictate most of winning and losing. You can know after you place your first 2 settlements if you’re statistically going to lose, there aren’t always 4 good starting locations, so its easy to pick last and feel like you are already behind.

The dice rolling feels extra bad since its very feast or famine. If you rely on 6s and no one rolls a 6 all game then you just lose. Beyond all of that, once you get rolling you get a lot more resources the I Want A Good Clean Fight Boxing Martial Stars T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this more you build and the only realistic catch up mechanics are robber and stopping trade. Both require social cooperation and neither are Achilles heels. So you probably know if you’ve won or lost before the first turn, if you get rich then you’ll get richer, and you still might lose because the dice distribution has a lot of potential variation. All 3 ways make you feel like you don’t have autonomy. You should definitely look up blogs and forum posts about all the other flaws people have found. Catan feels strategic and fun the first few times you play it and it’s rules are intuitive so it’s fun to share with new players but awful to play over and over again if you know what’s coming.
