Work on a personal project. There’s a list of 100 sample projects atMaybe try and contribute to open source. GitHub has an advanced search feature and some GitHub issues are marked with the I May Look Like I’m Listening But In My Head I”m Playing Xylophone T-Shirt moreover I love this “easy” label for beginners. Do you think personal projects are similar in value? I wasnt able to get one last summer or this summer, so last summer I built my own app that made it to the app store and this year Im working on some research w a lab group as well as a deep learning model for the stock market, and while I feel theyre cool, I always felt like Id be screwed when I graduate next year since they still arent the fancy internships that my peers got No, but a project thats actually on the app store and downloadable is better than a lot of projects that get listed on resumes.

Research experience is pretty solid tho, not internship level, but it’s still technical work as part of a team. Sounds like this company sucks. Expecting an intern to complete work at an experienced workers pace is just dumb. Why take an intern if you don’t have the I May Look Like I’m Listening But In My Head I”m Playing Xylophone T-Shirt moreover I love this resources to train them? And then lowering your pay because they know you don’t have much choice but to accept it since I doubt many places are still looking for summer interns. Sounds very shitty I’m sorry that happened to you. The value of an intern is not in the work they do, but rather the fact that it lets you identify future talent that has a lot of potential and it helps you develop your current employee’s leadership, mentoring, and so forth. Find another internship. That company is bullshit and was simply looking to exploit you. Even if you do go back for less pay they’ll never be a good reference or offer you a permanent position post graduation. Any time invested with them at intern pay will have no long term return for you.
