if you go to a grocery store in a poor neighborhood you’ll notice the I just want to work in my garden and hangout with my dog shirt so you should to go to store and get this green grocer is fairly shabby. Go to a nice part of town and the fruits and veggies are displayed like gift shop baubles. if you’re poor and have a limited amount of cash you can buy a bag of rice or some boxes of pasta, the mellon available is about the same price but has a terrible chance of being hard as a rock inside…or slimy mushy. Wealthy people tend to care a lot about appearances and social status, and part of that is being slimmer. Also they have access and can afford good food and exercise equipment. A kid is a lot more likely to go out and play outside if their backyard has a basketball hoop, tennis court, etc etc. Essentially, rich people don’t use food for the dopamine hit because they don’t have to. They have money and better ways to bring temporary joy
I just want to work in my garden and hangout with my dog shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
The ultra wealthy don’t work (they live off their investment income) and can afford personal trainers. They’re some of the I just want to work in my garden and hangout with my dog shirt so you should to go to store and get this healthiest and fittest people alive because they have both the disposable time and money to spend on themselves. When you’re wealthier you typically have less stress and less need to comfort yourself with calories. I’ve seen plenty of rich people get fat when they go through a really hard period in their personal lives, but poor people’s whole lives are a hard period, from Day 1. Chronic stress is a major issue for poor kids as well as adults. People often cite “food deserts” and such and I know that’s a problem in some areas, but I’ve worked with a lot of poor people in rural areas and most of them can access and afford fruits and vegetables and such, but they don’t WANT that food. When you come home from getting crapped on all day at work or school, (because your clothes, your hair, your accent, your vocabulary and everything else about you signals to other people that you’re somebody who can’t do much about it if they treat you badly), and you pull into your ugly, uncomfortable house in your dangerous neighborhood, (often to deal with interpersonal stress at home because everyone else in your family is ALSO poor and ALSO chronically stressed), the LAST thing you want is to eat a big ol’ pile of fucking steamed kale. Barbecue and hostess cakes are bad for you in quantity in the long run, but they are a cheap and reliable source of instant pleasure in an otherwise shitty day. Little kids generally eat what their parents eat (and aren’t immune from ambient poverty-related stress in their households) and older kids will seek out sugar on their own. It’s a vicious cycle (like a lot of things affecting poor people) because being overweight is just one more thing that signals that you’re poor and that other people can treat you badly with impunity.
