You got let go by a different job? Or malicious compliance was just the I Have Two Titles Brother And Gamer I Crush Them Both T-Shirt But I will love this reason listed in the email or whatever formally letting you go I accepted a job when it was advertised for $26/hr. but I got $20/hr. instead. It was a sweatshop. 3 projects of fire alarm drawings done in a single day. I knew I wasn’t going to last. So I played along for as long as I could. My manager gave me a project where we had to recreate this drawing from a sloppy photo given to us by the client. I thought it was unacceptable. I suffered through it, simply because I was going to be gone for my surgery the following weekend. When I told my employer that I was going to be missing for 2 week, they told me an employee came back from vacation and that I was no longer needed. How convenient Forgetting the fact that I was recruited in. They still have a job posting for my position to this day.

Anyways, nothing was formally written, that’s just exactly what I did. I took the I Have Two Titles Brother And Gamer I Crush Them Both T-Shirt But I will love this job, told them I had surgery in a month, tried to stretch their time as much as I could towards the last week, and then got let go for it. That sucks. I’d treat it like a low starting offer for leverage, coz if it isn’t then who cares how you treat it, it’s useless. I would not counter it or throw out a number even if asked—some offers are too low to counter. They need to give a serious offer if you’re gonna talk numbers, and if they can’t, they were never going to land anywhere reasonable and you should walk. Say it nicely but firmly. The older I get the more I’ve noticed that most people will bargain themselves down for you if there is any bargaining room. If they get in the range, then counter above your bottom line and try to meet in the middle. Just mess with them at that point…Tell them you completely understand & you’ll gladly accept if they agree to pay OT for any hours over 20 worked per week. Tell them your experience, market value, inflation, and advancements in technology don’t warrant more than 20 hours of work from you per week.
